Law enforcement has in Kano, detained Chidera Ugwu, a self-professed doctor accused of administering fatal injections and drugs to a pregnant teenager, leading to her demise.

According to a statement released by the state police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the arrest followed a report from Nura Balarabe. Balarabe informed the police that 19-year-old Ukasha Muhammed, residing in Langel village, Tofa Local Government Area, allegedly impregnated his sister, Amina, 19. Amina sought assistance from the purported doctor, Ugwu, 24, a resident of Lanbum Banki in Tofa LGA. Unfortunately, the injection administered by Ugwu, intended to terminate the pregnancy, resulted in Amina’s tragic death.

Kiyawa confirmed the arrest of the suspects, who subsequently confessed to the crime. Police investigations uncovered a pattern of the fake doctor administering injections to pregnant women, often with dire consequences.

In a separate incident, the police also apprehended Yusuf Haruna, a notorious thug accused of murdering Imam Malam Sani Mohammed Shuaibu in Jakara quarters, Kano city. The 18-year-old suspect, known as Lagwatsani, allegedly stabbed the Imam in the back with a sharp knife while he was performing ablution. The Imam had previously warned Haruna and his gang to refrain from smoking Indian hemp around the mosque premises.

The victim, sustaining a severe injury from the attack, was rushed to Murtala Muhammed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. The police intervened, preventing the suspect from facing a potential mob lynching and took him into custody.

Commissioner of Police Muhammed Usaini Gumel urged the public to exercise patience as the police carry out their investigations into these crimes.
