Organized labor took action on Monday by shutting down the main gate of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), commonly known as the Minister’s Gate, thereby preventing workers from accessing their offices.

The gate closure was orchestrated by various labor unions including the FCTA, the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) labor union, the Joint Union, and the Action Committee (JUAC).

Employees were observed congregating around the gate while labor leaders enforced compliance with the directive of “no entry, no going out.”

Addressing the situation at the gate, Comrade Rifkatu Lortyer, the President of JUAC, expressed determination to continue the action until their demands are addressed.

Lortyer advised workers of the FCTA and FCDA to remain at home and adhere to the directives.

She remarked, “This struggle has been ongoing for some time now, primarily concerning the minimum wage and the recent addition of electricity tariff hikes. Despite efforts, the government has yet to reach a compromise. Since the national bodies of NLC and TUC have declared a strike, it’s imperative for us to enforce it.
