BREAKING: Kaduna govt declares curfew as protest persist

The Kaduna State Security Council has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Kaduna and Zaria Metropolitan Cities in response to ongoing protests in the area.

While some parts of Kaduna have seen a return to normalcy, thousands of youths are still on the streets, demanding an end to what they consider poor governance. President Bola Tinubu had called for calm, but the protesters argued that his address did not address their specific demands.

In a statement issued on Monday, Samuel Aruwan, Overseeing Commissioner of the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, explained that the curfew was enacted to ensure peace.

“The Kaduna State Security Council, led by Governor Uba Sani, has reviewed the current security situation and found that the protests have been overtaken by criminal elements involved in looting and vandalism of both private and public property,” Aruwan said.

“Therefore, the Council has decided to impose a 24-hour curfew on Kaduna and Zaria Metropolises and surrounding areas, effective immediately. We urge all citizens to stay indoors as security forces work to restore order. The situation will be monitored and the curfew adjusted as needed.”
