Roseline Ada Chenge, a former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is set to challenge Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia in the 2027 governorship election after emerging as the candidate of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP).

IDOMA VOICE report that Chenge, an indigene of Owukpa in Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State, is among the 12 candidates listed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the February 6, 2027, governorship election in the state.

Her name appears on INEC’s final list as the PRP candidate, with Emmanuel Gwaza listed as her running mate.

Chenge has previously pursued the Benue governorship ticket under the PDP. She first contested for the party’s nomination in 2007 and remained active in the state’s governorship race in subsequent election cycles.

An engineer by profession, Chenge has been described in previous media reports as Northern Nigeria’s first female mechanical engineer.

She has also held key public-sector positions, including Managing Director of the Lower Benue River Basin Development Authority and General Manager of the Benue State Water Board.

During her time in public service, she was associated with efforts to improve water infrastructure, including the Greater Makurdi Water Works project.

Beyond her professional career, Chenge has advocated greater participation by women in Nigerian politics, highlighting the challenges female aspirants face in securing party support and competing against well-funded political opponents.
