The Social Democratic Party, SDP, deputy governorship candidate for Benue State ahead of the forthcoming election, Amb. Dr. Dickson Akoh is set to withdraw from the March 9th governorship election.

Amb. Akoh was nominated as the SDP deputy governorship candidate by stakeholders of the party who may have taken advantage of his fall-out with his erstwhile party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.

New-Nigeria Reporters gathered Wednesday evening that the young politician and youths mobiliser is presently engaging in wide consultation on which political party to direct his teeming supporters across the State if he eventually withdraws from the race.

A highly reliable source close to Amb. Akoh who did not want his name mentioned in the media for obvious reasons told our reporter at Akoh’s lodge along Otukpo road, Makurdi, that his Boss may have arrived at the decision due to the inconsistencies and loose structure of the SDP, adding that the constant litigation between Mr. Hingah Biem and Dr. Stephen Hwande over who is the authentic governorship candidate of the party may have caused his boss’s thought to withdraw from the race, as it is clear that the crisis have mared the chances of the party in the next Saturday poll.

Another source among Akoh’s aides who pleaded anonymity said the decision may not be unconnected to the presure from the APC leadership who wanted Akoh back to the broom party after the abysmal performance the party recorded in the last national assembly election where they lost all the three senatorial districts, and 10 out of the 11 House Representatives seats in the State to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

According to the source, the APC leadership and other stakeholders, including its governorship and deputy governorship candidates, Barr. Emmanuel Jime and Dr. Sam Ode, on Monday visited Akoh at his Makurdi lodge and pleaded with him to return to the party in other to work for the victory of the broom party in the Saturday gubernatorial election as one of its resourceful founding members.

Though it is not clear which party the youth ambassador may pitch his tent if he eventually withdraws from the race; you may recall that this news tabloid reported weekend how the incumbent Governor and PDP candidate in the election, Dr. Samuel Ortom, also sent emissaries to practically beg Akoh to give PDP his support in the election.
