The Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, Imo State, has suspended a facilitator, Mr. Okoroafor Ifeanyichukwu, after a viral video showed him assaulting a male student.

In a suspension letter (Ref: FPN/TEDC/80/1) dated March 14, 2025, the institution stated that Okoroafor was suspended from the Technical and Entrepreneurship Development Centre pending an investigation into the incident that occurred on March 13.

Signed by Dr. Okoye P.C., Director of TEDC, the letter was copied to the Rector, Dean of Student Affairs, and Student Union Government.

The video, widely circulated online, captured Okoroafor slapping and kicking the student, Chidera, causing him to fall and damage his phone. The footage sparked outrage and condemnation.

Following the backlash, Okoroafor sent an apology to Chidera, acknowledging his actions as unprofessional and expressing regret for causing harm. He pledged to change his behavior and create a safer learning environment.

Social media users praised the institution’s swift action, though some raised concerns about the lecturer’s right to a fair hearing.
