Gov Alia begs Benue workers to support his 2027 second term bid
Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has called on workers in the state to support his re-election bid in 2027, assuring them of sustained reforms and improved welfare under his administration.
Governor Alia made the appeal on Wednesday during the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration held at the IBB Square in Makurdi, where he praised workers for their role in driving the success of his administration.
He said his government has made deliberate efforts to heal the “old infectious wounds” inflicted on workers by previous administrations and is committed to doing more.
“I am a partner and comrade with you in driving the workforce,” the governor declared. “My administration approved ₦75,000 as minimum wage and we are committed to doing more. This month, we will pay one month’s arrears.”
Alia highlighted key achievements in workers’ welfare, including:
-
Clearing five months of salary arrears, including those owed to political appointees.
-
Reducing the backlog in gratuity payments for retirees.
-
Renovating the State Secretariat to enhance work conditions.
-
Automating public service operations for efficiency.
-
Prioritizing staff training, retraining, and timely promotions.
While acknowledging the economic hardship brought on by inflation, the governor assured workers of cushioning measures and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the quality of life for both civil servants and the general public.
“Workers are the engine of governance. We’ll continue to provide an enabling environment for you to function effectively,” he said.
