Yobe bans transfer of teachers to non-teaching MDAs

The Yobe State Government has imposed a permanent ban on the transfer, posting, or deployment of teachers from education-related agencies to non-teaching Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

The directive was announced in a statement issued by the Office of the Head of Service, which said the ban applies to personnel under the Teaching Service Board, Science and Technical Schools’ Board, and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

The statement warned that no ministry, agency, parastatal, or institution should request the posting or release of teachers from the affected bodies.

According to the government, the decision was necessitated by the continued transfer of teaching staff, a trend that has reduced manpower in schools and negatively affected efforts to improve the quality of education across the state.

It noted that since taking office, Governor Mai Mala Buni has declared a state of emergency in the education sector and introduced several reforms and interventions aimed at enhancing educational standards.

The government also directed all state-owned tertiary institutions to stop submitting requests for teaching personnel from the three education boards.

The directive was contained in a circular signed by the Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa Shehu, who warned that any violation of the order would be treated seriously.

Stakeholders across the education sector have been urged to strictly comply with the directive and ensure its wide dissemination.
