Respect me, whether I passed through traditional rites or not — Och’Idoma tells critics

The paramount ruler of Idoma land, HRM Agabaidu Elaigwu John Odogbo, has called on those disrespecting the traditional institution of the land to desist forthwith.

According to him, the increasing attacks on monarchs in Idomaland are worrisome and must be stopped urgently.

Speaking at a Royal Banquet organized in Abuja on Friday, the monarch noted that although attacks on traditional stools are not new, it is important for people to respect elders and stop undermining them, whether they passed through traditional rites or not.

He said: “Some people think that by pulling others down, they can rise. But it has never worked that way. Pulling someone down may in fact become a hindrance to your own progress.
Let us respect our elders and institutions. Stop disrespect for leadership, whether someone passed through traditional rites or not, is not the real issue.

“History shows that every Och’Idoma has faced challenges. The first Och’Idoma was attacked and taken to court for 15 years. The second also faced resistance. Now, with the new Och’Idoma, we must learn from the past. The real problem is not the rituals, it is our mindset.”

The monarch emphasised that unity, respect, and a change of attitude are vital for the progress of Idomaland.
