NiMet forecasts dust haze, thunderstorms nationwide from Monday to Wednesday
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted a mix of dust haze and thunderstorms across several parts of the country between Monday and Wednesday, urging citizens to remain vigilant and take necessary safety measures.
In its three-day weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, the agency forecasted slight dust haze over Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Borno, and parts of Kaduna State on Monday, while other areas in the North are expected to experience sunny conditions.
NiMet projected isolated thunderstorms in parts of southern Taraba during the afternoon and evening, with sunny skies and scattered clouds dominating the central region. Later in the day, thunderstorms are also expected in parts of Benue and Kogi States, while the southern region will witness cloudy conditions with light morning rainfall in some areas.
The forecast also indicated late morning thunderstorms in Ogun, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Lagos States, with moderate rains expected by evening across parts of the Southwest and Southeast, including Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Ekiti, Osun, Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Delta States.
For Tuesday, NiMet predicted sunny and hazy weather across the northern region and isolated thunderstorms over southern Taraba in the afternoon and evening. The central states are expected to experience sunny skies with patches of clouds, with possible thunderstorms later in the day in Kogi, Benue, and Kwara States.
In the South, cloudy conditions are anticipated in the morning over Ogun, Lagos, and Cross River States, followed by thunderstorms with moderate rainfall later in the afternoon and evening, affecting areas including Ogun, Edo, Enugu, Ondo, Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Delta States.
By Wednesday, the northern region is expected to remain sunny, while the central region will have sunny skies with scattered clouds. Isolated thunderstorms and light rains are forecast for Kwara, Benue, and Kogi States later in the afternoon and evening.
For the southern parts, morning clouds are expected over Cross River, Rivers, and Delta States, with moderate thunderstorms likely to develop later in the day across Abia, Anambra, Imo, Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Edo, Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.
NiMet advised motorists to drive carefully during hazy or rainy conditions, warning that suspended dust particles could reduce visibility and air quality in the North.
It also cautioned individuals with asthma and other respiratory issues to avoid prolonged exposure to dust and stay indoors during periods of heavy haze.
The agency urged airline operators to obtain detailed, airport-specific weather information for flight planning to prevent delays or disruptions.
NiMet encouraged the public to stay updated through its official website, **[www.nimet.gov.ng](http://www.nimet.gov.ng)**, and social media channels for daily weather alerts and advisories.
