PDP crisis worsens as Wike-backed faction inaugurates new Board of Trustees
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, has officially inaugurated a new Board of Trustees (BoT).
The ceremony took place on Friday at the conference hall of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
Several prominent PDP figures, including Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), were present at the inauguration.
The newly appointed trustees include Mao Ohabunwa as chairman and Isah Dansidi as secretary.
During the event, Mohammed accused the previous BoT of violating the party’s constitution and engaging in alleged anti-party activities.
He said, “When a political party starts disregarding its own constitution and rules, it risks losing the very foundation that keeps it together. This unfortunate situation compelled three concerned members and leaders to seek judicial intervention—not out of anger or personal ambition, but out of love for the PDP and concern for its future.”
Mohammed described the new board as more than just a statutory body, calling it a “symbol of rebirth.”
He added, “This Board of Trustees represents our collective commitment to restore the PDP to its moral compass. It will once again serve as the conscience of the party, offering guidance with courage, wisdom, and impartiality.”
This move marks the latest chapter in the ongoing internal crisis within the PDP.
