The Academic Staff Union of Tertiary Institutions in Benue State has suspended its planned strike, granting the state government a brief window to address outstanding welfare issues.
In a statement released last week, the union said Governor Hyacinth Alia has until November 25, 2025, to resolve key concerns affecting academic staff.
These include the payment of outstanding salary arrears, proper implementation of the state pension law which the union described as “haphazard and arbitrary” and full enforcement of the 25% and 35% wage awards due to lecturers.
The union warned that failure to meet these demands before the deadline could lead to the reinstatement of the suspended strike action.
