Police invite Pastor Chris Okafor over multiple allegations
The Lagos State Police Command has summoned Pastor Chris Okafor, the founder and senior pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, following allegations bordering on multiple rape and other sexual-related offences.
Confirming the development on Sunday night in Lagos, the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the invitation was part of an ongoing investigation into the serious claims.
She disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, had instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to immediately commence a comprehensive probe into the matter.
According to Adebisi, the cleric was officially notified through his lawyer and is required to honour the invitation and present himself before detectives at the SCID, Panti, for questioning.
“He is expected to cooperate with the police as investigations into what were described as capital offences and other serious crimes commence.
“CP Jimoh also ordered immediate and full security coverage for alleged victims, urging them to come forward to report their complaints at the SCID,” she said.
The police spokesperson further assured that all complainants and witnesses involved in the case would enjoy full protection, stressing that their identities would be treated with utmost confidentiality throughout the investigation process.
She also called on members of the public who may have useful information or evidence connected to the allegations to assist the police by reaching out directly to the SCID or the Police Public Relations Department of the Lagos State Command.
Adebisi reiterated that the investigation would be handled professionally and without bias, noting that due process and existing laws would be strictly followed.
She added that the Lagos State Police Command remains resolute in its duty to uphold law and order, emphasizing that allegations of criminal conduct against any individual would always be thoroughly and discreetly examined in line with the law.
