Nigeria’s Super Eagles have secured a place in the semi-finals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco after a commanding 2–0 victory over Algeria on Saturday night.

In a pulsating quarter-final encounter, Eric Chelle’s side delivered a disciplined and assured performance to overcome the Desert Foxes and keep their continental title hopes alive.

The Super Eagles dominated large spells of the first half, dictating the tempo and pinning Algeria deep in their own half, but clear chances went begging as the opening 45 minutes ended goalless.

Nigeria came closest to breaking the deadlock when defender Calvin Bassey saw his effort dramatically cleared off the goal line.

The breakthrough finally arrived after the restart, with Victor Osimhen rising highest to head home a well-delivered cross from Bruno Onyemaechi.

Osimhen later turned provider, laying on a precise assist for Akor Adams, who calmly doubled Nigeria’s advantage to seal the victory.

The three-time African champions will now face tournament hosts Morocco in the semi-final, with a place in the final at stake.
