Supporters of Moses Paul Ogidi of the African Democratic Congress have called on him to reject the results of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship election declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission and pursue legal redress.

According to official results, Christopher Maikalangu of the All Progressives Congress was declared the winner with 40,295 votes. Ogidi of the ADC came second with 12,109 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party candidate polled 3,398 votes, out of 62,861 valid votes cast.

The ADC camp has raised concerns about alleged irregularities in parts of the voting and collation process, claiming outcomes in several wards were affected. Supporters are urging Ogidi to formally reject the results and challenge them in court to ensure transparency and accountability.

Adding to the uproar, Dr Yunusa Tanko alleged manipulations in the FCT council elections, claiming that INEC officials withheld results from key areas where ADC candidates, including Ogidi, were reportedly leading. He specifically cited Gwarinpa, Garki, and Karu, stating that results had been ready since 9 p.m. on Saturday but were deliberately withheld.

“The situation in this country is becoming more alarming than I thought. Reports reaching us indicate that Gwarinpa, Garki, and Karu results were ready since nine o’clock, and they refused to announce it just because Dr Mo is leading,” Dr. Tanko said.

He described chaotic scenes in affected areas, including teargas deployment, and called on Nigerians to remain vigilant. “This is the test they are trying to arrange for the general election. We must battle this one now, and I’m urging everybody to come out to the rescue of Dr Mo, because he has won this election,” he added.

An ADC chieftain expressed confidence that legal proceedings would uncover discrepancies between votes cast and votes recorded at some polling units, potentially affecting the overall AMAC result.

The party is expected to formally reject the declared results and file a legal challenge in the coming days as tensions continue to rise over the electoral process in the FCT.
