Benue: Police inspector shot dead by gunmen in Makurdi, rifle stolen

An Inspector identified as Otor Ejiga, attached to the Mega IDP Camp along Gbajimba Road in Makurdi, Benue State, was killed by unidentified gunmen on Thursday evening.

The officer was reportedly attacked while operating an unauthorized solitary checkpoint close to the camp.

During the incident, the attackers allegedly carted away his Type O6 rifle.

A patrol team later recovered his remains and conveyed them to the mortuary of Benue State University Teaching Hospital for autopsy.

Sources disclosed that security agencies have commenced efforts to trail the perpetrators and retrieve the missing firearm.

It was learnt also that a comprehensive investigation has been ordered, and the supervising officer has been issued a query for alleged lapses in supervision.
