Benue declares one-week Easter holiday for civil servants

The Benue State Government has sanctioned a seven-day public holiday for its workforce in observance of the Easter season.

The announcement, made by state officials, is intended to allow civil servants ample time to participate fully in the Christian festivities, which hold deep religious importance for many.

According to the authorities, the holiday will give workers the chance to rest, travel, and reconnect with family members during the period.

Easter, a major Christian event marking the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, is widely celebrated across Nigeria and beyond.

The government added that the break also offers an opportunity for spiritual renewal and reflection among workers.

Residents were advised to use the season to pray for peace, unity, and continued development within the state.

This call comes against the backdrop of recent security challenges in Benue, especially recurring conflicts between farmers and herders.

Citizens were therefore urged to remain law-abiding and promote peaceful coexistence throughout the holiday period.

Many workers have welcomed the decision, noting that the extended time off will help them recharge and strengthen family bonds.

Some also believe the festive period could stimulate local economic activities, as travel and spending typically increase during such holidays.

However, essential service providers, particularly in the health and security sectors, are expected to remain on duty to ensure continuous service delivery.

The government further cautioned travellers to observe all road safety regulations while moving around during the celebrations.

Easter continues to rank among the most significant events in Christianity, and the holiday reflects its importance to the people of Benue State.
