Gianluca Prestianni has been handed a six-match suspension following disciplinary proceedings linked to an incident involving Real Madrid forward Vinícius Jr during a UEFA Champions League knockout match.

The incident occurred during the knockout-stage encounter between Benfica and Real Madrid, where a confrontation between both players led to reports of discriminatory remarks on the pitch.

UEFA opened an investigation into the matter after match officials and reports flagged the exchange, which briefly escalated tensions during the game.

The governing body confirmed that Prestianni’s sanction is related to “homophobic insults,” clarifying that the case does not include any findings of racist abuse.
The governing body further stated that part of the punishment will be suspended, depending on future conduct.
