You won’t even make bench — Mourinho warns Real Madrid players

Jose Mourinho has warned Real Madrid players that he will leave out anyone who fails to meet the club’s standards of behaviour and commitment.

The Real Madrid manager made the remark while defending Vinicius Junior amid criticism of the Brazilian winger’s performances this season.

Vinicius has faced boos from sections of the club’s supporters as he struggles to find his best form. The winger also reportedly turned down a summer move to Arsenal.

Mourinho, however, insisted that poor form alone would not make him lose patience with a player.

He said his main concern would be a lack of effort or failure to uphold the club’s expectations.

The Portuguese manager stressed that players who do not meet those standards would not make his matchday squad, rather than face criticism from the stands.

He said: “I promise you, when a Real Madrid stops behaving like a Real Madrid player, you will not even get a chance to boo him.

“And that’s because he won’t even get to sit on the bench.”
