The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has declined a request by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to visit former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in its custody.

In a letter dated May 21, 2026, and addressed to the ADC National Secretary in Abuja, the Commission said the request could not be granted.

ICPC stated that El-Rufai is currently facing trial before two courts, the Kaduna State High Court of Justice and the Federal High Court, both sitting in Kaduna State.

The Commission explained that although he is being held in its custody by court order, the case remains before the judiciary.

It further noted that access to the defendant has been strictly limited by the courts.

“The court has granted access to the defendant to his family, doctors and counsels. These are the only category of persons granted access to see the defendant in the Commission’s custody,” the statement read.

The ICPC therefore concluded that the ADC’s request for a visit could not be approved.
