Stakeholders in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State have rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) primary election for the Enone Federal Constituency House of Representatives seat, insisting that the party should revisit the process and uphold the existing zoning arrangement.

The stakeholders, in a statement, reiterated their demand for the restoration and ratification of the zoning formula guiding the allocation of the House of Representatives ticket within Enone Federal Constituency.

According to them, all federal constituencies in Benue South Senatorial District have effectively zoned their House of Representatives tickets to the appropriate local government areas, stressing that Enone Federal Constituency should not be treated differently.

They argued that, based on the established zoning principle, the ADC House of Representatives ticket for Enone Federal Constituency ought to be allocated to Okpokwu Local Government Area in the interest of equity and fairness.

The stakeholders disclosed that a petition on the matter had already been submitted to the National Secretariat of the ADC and other relevant organs of the party for consideration following the conduct of the primary election.

They maintained that the zoning arrangement remains a critical tool for ensuring inclusiveness, balance and peaceful political participation among the constituent local government areas of the constituency.

The group further rejected any outcome arising from what it described as a “kangaroo primary election,” insisting that the process failed to reflect the principles of justice and fairness.

They, therefore, called on the leadership of the ADC to review the outcome of the primary and ratify the zoning arrangement in favour of Okpokwu Local Government Area.

The stakeholders expressed optimism that the party would address their concerns in line with its commitment to internal democracy and equitable representation.
