Bandits kill one, rustle livestock in Sokoto community
Armed bandits have attacked Kagoye Village in Gwadabawa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing one resident and rustling an unspecified number of livestock.
Sources said the incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday when heavily armed assailants stormed the community and opened fire on residents.
According to the sources, troops from a nearby Forward Operating Base (FOB) were alerted and swiftly mobilised to the area in response to the attack.
“On arrival, the troops discovered that one resident had been killed by the attackers, while an unspecified number of domestic animals had been rustled,” a source disclosed.
The bandits reportedly fled into a nearby forest before security personnel reached the village.
The body of the deceased was evacuated to General Hospital, Silame, for autopsy and other necessary procedures.
Security sources said efforts were ongoing to track down the perpetrators, recover the stolen livestock and bring those responsible to justice.
They added that joint security teams had launched confidence-building patrols and surveillance operations across the affected community and neighbouring areas to reassure residents and prevent further attacks.
The security agencies reaffirmed their commitment to combating banditry, cattle rustling and other criminal activities threatening rural communities across Sokoto State.
