Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has appointed retired Major-General Bala A. Isandu as his Special Adviser on Security in a move aimed at strengthening the state’s security architecture.
The appointment, which takes immediate effect, was announced by the Plateau State Government on Wednesday.
Before his latest appointment, Maj.-Gen. Isandu (retd.) served as the Senior Special Assistant on Intelligence to the Minister of Defence. He also previously held the position of Director at the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA).
During his military career spanning more than three decades, the retired general participated in several local and international security operations, earning a reputation for his expertise in intelligence, strategic security management and national defence.
The state government said the appointment is part of a broader restructuring designed to reinforce Plateau’s security framework, improve the protection of lives and property, and enhance the safety of schools and other public institutions across the state.
Governor Mutfwang congratulated Isandu and other newly appointed officials, expressing confidence in their professionalism, commitment and wealth of experience.
He urged the retired military officer to deploy his vast security expertise in supporting the administration’s vision of building a peaceful, secure and prosperous Plateau State.
Meanwhile, security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, has welcomed the appointment, describing Isandu as a seasoned intelligence officer with extensive operational experience.
Makama noted that the retired major-general served in several key intelligence and strategic positions within and outside Nigeria during his over 30 years in the military, adding that his experience in intelligence gathering, security coordination and counter-insurgency operations would significantly support the Plateau State Government’s efforts to tackle the state’s security challenges.
