Tinubu meets Alia, Suswam in Abuja as Benue crisis escalates

President Bola Tinubu is currently in a private meeting with Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia and former governor, Senator Gabriel Suswam, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting, which took place on Monday, comes amid rising political tension in Benue State.

No official details have been released yet, as the discussions are ongoing behind closed doors.

The development is happening against the backdrop of intensifying internal struggles within the Benue chapter of the ruling APC, where Governor Alia and allies of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, are engaged in a power tussle over party structure ahead of the 2027 elections.

It also follows recent political shifts in the state, with Senator Suswam reportedly emerging as a notable figure after the APC senatorial primaries, positioning himself as a key stakeholder ahead of the next election cycle.

While it remains unclear whether Benue’s political situation is the central focus of the talks, the timing has fuelled speculation that the Presidency may be seeking to calm tensions, reconcile rival camps, and strengthen unity among the state’s political actors.

As of press time, the Presidency has not released any official statement on the outcome of the meeting.
