BREAKING: Reps withdraw own state police bill, adopt Tinubu’s proposal

The House of Representatives has set aside its proposed constitutional amendment aimed at creating state police, choosing instead to deliberate on a similar bill submitted by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The decision was announced during Tuesday’s plenary after lawmakers granted the Executive-backed state police bill its first and second readings.

Following the readings, the legislation was referred to the House Committee on Constitutional Review for detailed consideration.

The move means the House’s earlier proposal has been put on hold as members focus on the Executive-sponsored amendment.

The committee is expected to thoroughly review the provisions of the bill before presenting it to the full House for further legislative debate and possible approval.

More details to follow.
