Six suspects arrested as troops dismantle illegal bunkering site in Lagos

Troops of the 65 Battalion of the Nigerian Army have dismantled a suspected illegal bunkering site in the Orile area of Lagos State and arrested six suspected oil bunkerers during a raid.

The operation was carried out under the leadership of the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo.

The Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 81 Division Nigerian Army, Lt.-Col. Musa Yahaya, disclosed the development in a statement.

According to Yahaya, the troops acted on credible intelligence before storming the site, leading to the arrest of the six suspects.

He said the operation also resulted in the recovery of four trucks, one pumping machine, and assorted pipes and drums allegedly used for illegal bunkering activities.

The spokesperson added that the suspects, along with the recovered items, had been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, for further investigation and necessary action.

The statement further noted that the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Adebayo Abdulrahman Babalola, commended the troops for the successful operation.

He also urged them to sustain the ongoing offensive against economic sabotage and other criminal activities within the 81 Division’s area of responsibility.
