Bauchi: One killed, six injured as Buskuwa, Mabani youths clash

One person has been killed while six others sustained injuries following a clash between youths from Buskuwa and Mabani communities in Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Monday night after three youths from Mabani were allegedly attacked by suspected youths from Buskuwa.

The three victims, identified as Babangida Musa, 20, Usman Abdu, 20, and Ya’u Muhammad, 18, were reportedly assaulted with sticks at about 8pm while travelling towards Buskuwa.

According to a statement from the Bauchi State Police Command, the attack later triggered a reprisal by youths from Mabani.

The police said one Jumba Adamu allegedly mobilised youths from Mabani to Buskuwa, where residents were attacked.

During the reprisal, one Muhammadu Dare was reportedly killed, while six other people sustained injuries of varying degrees.

Police personnel from the Gamawa Division, assisted by local hunters and vigilante members, responded to the violence and evacuated the injured victims and the deceased to the General Hospital, Gamawa.

The command said three of the injured persons were admitted for further treatment, while the remaining three were treated and subsequently discharged.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, confirmed that one suspect had been arrested, while security operatives were making efforts to apprehend other individuals allegedly involved in the violence.

He said preliminary investigations had commenced and that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the violence and ordered increased security patrols and conflict-resolution efforts in the affected communities.

He appealed to residents and community leaders in Buskuwa and Mabani to maintain peace and refrain from retaliatory actions, warning that anyone found culpable would face prosecution.
