1. Ex-IGP Mohammed Adamu Emerges SDP Governorship Candidate In Nasarawa

Former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has emerged as the Social Democratic Party’s governorship candidate for Nasarawa State in the 2027 election.

Adamu was the only aspirant at the replacement primary held in Lafia on Saturday and was declared the party’s flag-bearer after votes were collated from the state’s 13 local government areas.

The SDP electoral committee chairman, Joseph Achille, said 28,637 delegates participated in the exercise, which he described as peaceful.

2. Wike Predicts Amaechi Will Ask Supporters To Boycott 2027 Election

FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has mocked former Rivers State Governor and ADC vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, ahead of the 2027 elections.

Wike predicted that Amaechi would call on his supporters to boycott the election after realising that he could not defeat the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State.

“On election day, before 11am, Amaechi will tell his people to boycott the election because he knows there’s no way he’ll defeat us,” Wike said.

He also challenged Amaechi to first win his hometown and polling unit.

“If he wins his village, Ubima, then he has won the election. That’s if he will win his own polling unit,” he said.

3. D’Tigress Suffer Second Straight Defeat At 2026 World Cup

Nigeria’s D’Tigress have suffered their second consecutive defeat at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin, Germany.

The Nigerian team lost 71-67 to Hungary on Saturday after previously falling 99-81 to South Korea in their opening Group B game.

Hungary took control of the game for long periods before Nigeria mounted a late comeback that ultimately fell short.

4. Abbas Dissolves All 10th House Ad Hoc Committees

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has dissolved all ad hoc committees constituted by the 10th House.

The decision affects several ongoing investigations, including the panel chaired by Yusuf Gagdi that was examining controversies involving the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.

The dissolution was conveyed through a memorandum signed by the Clerk of the House, Sidi Ibrahim, and took effect from August 28, 2026.

The Allied Peoples Movement has accused the Federal Government of presenting an inaccurate picture of Nigeria’s security situation.

The opposition party criticised Defence Minister Christopher Musa’s claim that security had improved, arguing that killings, kidnappings and displacement remain widespread.

The APM also cited Nigeria’s reported fourth position in the 2026 Global Terrorism Index and challenged government officials to demonstrate their confidence in the security situation by travelling without armed escorts.

Nollywood actress Oluebube Obio has alleged that she was forced to attend an APC campaign event.

The actress made the claim after Nigerians criticised her appearance at the political gathering.

She alleged that she was being blackmailed and said she would expose those responsible when the time was right.

Oluebube also appealed to her supporters to pray for her, saying she was uncomfortable and stressed during the event.

8. Wike Says Rainbow Coalition Will Increase Tinubu’s 2027 Votes

Nyesom Wike has dismissed claims that the Rainbow Coalition could hurt President Bola Tinubu’s chances in the 2027 election.

The FCT Minister argued that governors making such claims lacked the political capacity to deliver substantial votes for Tinubu.

He maintained that the coalition would instead boost the president’s votes and reiterated that Rivers State would support Tinubu.

Wike has said the Rivers State Rainbow Coalition will adopt what he described as Rotimi Amaechi’s own definition of political brotherhood ahead of the 2027 election.

He recalled Amaechi’s support for former President Muhammadu Buhari against Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 presidential election.

Wike also accused Amaechi of allegedly prioritising his political interests while serving as Transportation Minister and criticised his record of development in Rivers State.
