Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has described the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, as the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the North-Central region.

Alia made the declaration in a statement following his participation in the APC grand rally held in Lafia, Nasarawa State, in support of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 general elections.

While listing dignitaries who attended the rally, the governor referred to Akume as “our North Central leader.”

The governor said the rally brought together APC governors, party leaders, members of the National Assembly, ministers, government appointees and thousands of supporters from across the region.

He specifically identified Akume as the North-Central leader while listing dignitaries who attended the event, including First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.

Alia also commended President Tinubu for what he described as continued support to states, saying the assistance had enabled his administration to accelerate development and deliver projects in Benue State.

According to the governor, the gathering provided an opportunity for APC stakeholders across the North-Central region to reaffirm their commitment to the party and the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He said governors and other key stakeholders at the rally pledged to mobilise support for Tinubu, Shettima and APC candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

“The North Central region has spoken with a united voice,” Alia said, expressing confidence in the party’s mobilisation efforts ahead of the polls.
