Oil bunkering activity claims four lives in Warri

It was a day of mourning for Arewa Community in Warri as four Hausa young men lost their lives during an alleged illegal bunkering in a riverine area known as Omare Bush in Warri South Local Government Area.

It was gathered that there was an explosion that led to fire out break during the alleged illegal oil bunkering and that in the process 10 casual workers of the illegal bunker were adversely affected leading to the immediate death of the four Hausa young men.

The other six victims were immediately rushed to the hospital and private clinic for medical attention.

A Police Officer at the Police ‘ A’ Division, Warri South Local Government Area who spoke under condition of anonymity told our correspondent that the sad incident was yet to be reported to the police at as the time of filling this report.

Scores of Hausa men were reportedly seen outside the gate of the Warri Cemetery discussing the incident while the victims were being interred as late as 8.00 pm

It was further gathered that preserve the dead till the next day was against Muslim rite and that the deceased can only be preserved more than a day if his or her identity was not known.

Effort made to get confirmation of the incidence though calls and text message put across to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Onome Onowakpeyeya proved abortive as at the time of filing this report.
