Benue: BENSESA GM, Onah monitors first monthly sanitation of the year

The General Manager of Benue State Environmental Sanitation Authority, BENSESA, Rt. Hon Solomon Onah today, led the monitoring team of the agency to supervise the first Environmental Sanitation Exercise of the year 2021 in Makurdi and its environs.

Addressing pressmen shortly after the exercise, Onah thanked the Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Samuel Ortom for the prompt provision of funds and enabling environment leading to the successes recorded by the agency, wishing him a very quick recovery.

Hon Onah added that, although there was a maximum compliance by shop owners, marketers, motorists but that of pedestrians was minimal owned to the fact the people were just returning from the Yuletide period, urging residents to comply fully to subsequent exercises to avoid being fined for violation..

On the issue of porous checkpoints during the exercise, the General Manager said it was due to inadequate manpower in the agency, appealing to the State Government to permanent the casual workers and employ more capable hands for better performance.

Many violators caught during the exercise were tried and fined by the mobile court setup by the agency to serve as deterrent to others.

Items seized during the sanitation exercise include; vehicles, motorcycles, tricycles, expired drinks and other edible materials.

Among the areas supervised in Makurdi by the monitoring team include; Wadata, Modern Market, Mobile barracks, High Level, Wurukum and North Bank.
