Some suspected hoodlums reportedly invaded the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, in a bid to hijack the corpse of a patient that died of coronavirus complications.

IDOMA VOICE gathered that, the irate mob invaded the hospital on Thursday, and attempted to cart away the corpse of a deceased family member who was said to have died of COVID-19.

However, the hospital insisted that it will not release the corpse to them, explaining that, burial will be conducted by men from Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC).

The situation resulted in pandemonium in the hospital as some of the hoodlums allegedly unplugged the life-supporting machines in the Accident and Emergency Unit of the hospital.

IDOMA VOICE gathered that the position of the management angered the family members and they led some numbers of hoodlums to the hospital to retrieve the corpse.

It was learnt that the hoodlum disrupted the hospital and unplugged the life-supporting machines of some patients in protest.

Reacting to the invasion on Saturday, the Chief Medical Director of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Prof Peter Olaitan, said, “two patients died of COVID-19 and the relations felt the diagnosis was not correct and started making trouble that they would like to bury their dead relations. Normally COVID corpses are buried by the COVID team to avoid infection of other members of the public. We later resolved the matter. No patient had the life support removed or died as a result of this.”
