Suswam speaks on being humiliated by Bishop Avenya during his brother’s burial
The former Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, has denied by humiliated by Bishop Williams Avenya during the requiem mass and burial ceremony of his elder brother, Terkula at St. Athanasius Catholic Parish Anyiin, Logo Local Government Area on Saturday.
IDOMA VOICE observed that there were several claimed on sical media that Suswam and Governor Ortom were denied the opportunity to speak during the burial ceremony.
However, Senator Suswam in a statement by his media aide,
Bede Bartholomew, said the report is untrue and should be discarded.
He said, “Contrary to the rumours making rounds in the Benue social media space by some unscrupulous ill-informed individuals whom I am very sure didn’t attend the requiem Mass and burial ceremony of elder brother to Sen. Gabriel Torwua Suswam at St. Athanasius Catholic Parish Anyiin, Logo Local Government Area, Benue State yesterday morning which had His Excellency Samuel Ortom Governor of Benue State, representatives of Taraba State and Minister of Power and thousands of sympathisers and mourners from all works of life and places all over the country in attendance, purporting that the Bishop Williams Avenya as officiating priest for the Mass of the day and that Bishop ‘deliberately’ refused to grant the governor and Senator Gabriel Suswam the opportunity to speak during the Mass for whatever reasons they claim from their minds!
I want to state without contradiction:
That the Catholic Church has its rules concerning such matters and so decided to exercise it based on its tradition during yesterday’s Mass.
That HE. Senator Gabriel Suswam doesn’t grudge or feel humiliated by the decision of the church for not allowing him to speak at the Mass for burial of his loving senior brother.
That Senator Gabriel Suswam appreciates the Catholic Church for honouring his brother even in death for performing the needful bearing all misgivings and inconvenience of the security situation in Sankera at this time.
