Four individuals suspected of traveling with dangerous weapons have been apprehended by operatives of the Edo State Security Network (ESN) in Benin City, Edo State.

This incident follows the recent interception of 16 armed travelers in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area, less than a month ago, which sparked public concern.

The latest suspects—Yusuf Abdulkarim, Mujaheed Garba, Shittu Idris, and Jamilu Habibu—were reportedly en route from Doguwa in Kano State to Uvbe Community in Orhionwon LGA, Edo State, when they were intercepted at Ikpoba Hill, Benin City.

According to the ESN, the suspects were found with an assortment of weapons, including three dane guns, six empty cartridges, three partially loaded cartridges, four cutlasses, and two daggers.

Spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, confirmed the arrests and stated that the suspects were immediately handed over to officers at the Ikpoba Hill Police Station for further investigation.

CSP Yamu also addressed circulating rumors, clarifying, “Contrary to social media reports, these individuals are hunters, not herdsmen, and were not arrested at Americanus Hotel near Big Joe Motors. They were intercepted at Ikpoba Hill while heading to Uvbe Community.”

He urged the public to avoid spreading misinformation that could incite panic, stressing that investigations are ongoing.

Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, also appealed to Edo residents to remain calm and avoid escalating tensions by sharing unverified information.
