Benue: PDP reacts as plot to suspend Akume from APC thickens
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State is aware of a flurry of activities, both covert and overt, from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to woo Governor Samuel Ortom into their fold.
Though the governor has made it clear he is not interested in going into political slavery again by joining APC, the opposition party has remained adamant, conjuring up one scheme after another, including false propaganda, to achieve their aim.
Lately impeccable sources within the Benue APC reveal that some of its leaders are plotting to cause crisis within the party to pave way for a splinter faction to emerge and openly declare loyalty and support for Governor Ortom.
The scheming group comprises a number of former governorship aspirants in the party who are aggrieved with the autocratic leadership style of Leader GSM George Akume, which they blame for their serial frustrations within the party, inducing their unfulfilled electoral ambitions.
It was further gathered that part of the group’s strategy will involve suspension of Leader Akume from the party by its Executive Committee in his native Ikyô-yia Council Ward on allegations of anti-party activities.
Benue PDP states here clearly that Governor Samuel Ortom as Leader of the party in North-Central Nigeria will not be available for APC membership, as such the opposition should channel it energies towards more profitable ventures.
PDP also makes it clear that its hands are clean in the event that crisis erupts within Benue APC, and this we deem it necessary to state considering the penchant of the opposition party to blame our great party for all its self-inflicted woes.
