Blackout hits Aso Villa, Airport, Supreme Court, others in Abuja
A widespread electricity outage has disrupted power supply to the Presidential Villa, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, the Supreme Court, and several districts across the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) announced the development in a notice issued on Saturday, attributing the blackout to a technical fault affecting supply in parts of the city.
Among the affected locations are the State House, Supreme Court, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Lugbe, Asokoro, Central Area, and Garki Areas 2, 3, 7, and 8, alongside other surrounding communities in Abuja.
The disco also extended apologies to customers in several institutions, hotels, embassies, and government offices impacted by the outage, including Bolingo Hotel, Envoy Hotel, the European Union office, National Hospital, National Planning Commission, and the embassies of Pakistan, India, Sudan, Turkey, and Egypt.
Other affected areas listed by the company include Garki Market, Garki Village, Treasury House, Karibu Hotel, Ubiaja Street, Kaltungo Street, Lagos Street, Oka Akoko Street, Oke Agbe Street, and sections of Asokoro.
AEDC further noted that the power disruption also affected areas around Yakubu Gowon Street, Kano, Sokoto and Imo government lodges, Gado Nasko Street, Maitama Sule Street, Aso Drive, NASS Annex, NJC, DIA, BAT Barracks, War College, Command Guest House, Aviation Village, River Park Estate, and parts of Airport Road.
Additional locations without electricity include Shoprite, Dunamis Church, Airforce Base, Immigration offices, Customs, Correctional Services, Civil Defence offices, Korean School, Nicomsat, Piwoye, Kapwa, and nearby communities.
Meanwhile, the company stated that engineers from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) are currently working to rectify the fault and restore supply to the affected locations.
“We regret the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding,” AEDC stated.
