BREAKING: 2026 WCQ: Super Eagles handed major boost as FIFA deducts 3 points from South Africa
FIFA has handed South Africa a major blow in the race for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers after deducting three points from their tally.
The decision, confirmed by world football’s governing body on Monday, came as punishment for Bafana Bafana fielding Teboho Mokoena, who was ineligible to feature in their clash against Lesotho in March.
In addition to the points deduction, FIFA also docked three goals from South Africa’s record in the qualification series.
The ruling comes as a huge boost to the Super Eagles of Nigeria, who are battling to revive their qualification hopes for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

1. South Africa 14pts
2. Benin 14pts
