BREAKING: EFCC detains former Labour Minister, Chris Ngige
Former Anambra State Governor and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, has been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Confirmation of the development came on Tuesday through his former media aide, Mr. Fred Chukwuelobe, who dismissed widespread social media claims that the ex-minister had been kidnapped.
In a short statement, Chukwuelobe clarified that Ngige is not missing but is presently in the custody of EFCC operatives.
He said:“Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, is with the EFCC. More details later.”
The clarification followed a surge of online reports alleging that the former minister had been abducted by suspected gunmen.
Ngige, who served as Labour Minister under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, recently attracted public attention after his convoy came under armed attack in Anambra State. Although he was not inside the affected vehicle at the time, the incident raised serious concerns about his safety.
As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC is yet to disclose the specific reason for his detention or the details surrounding its investigation.
