Supreme Court removes Abure as Labour Party’s National Chairman

The Supreme Court has overturned the Court of Appeal’s judgment that had recognized Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP).
In a unanimous decision on Friday, a five-member panel of the apex court ruled that the Court of Appeal did not have the jurisdiction to declare Abure as the party’s National Chairman. The court pointed out that the case at hand primarily concerned the internal leadership of the party, which falls outside the scope of judicial authority.
The court further noted that Abure’s tenure as National Chairman had already expired.
The Supreme Court upheld the appeal filed by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman and another appellant, deeming it valid, while it dismissed the cross-appeal lodged by Abure’s faction of the LP, finding it without merit.
