BREAKING: Tambuwal declares curfew as Sokoto boils over Deborah Samuel’s murder
Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state has declared, with immediate effect, a 24-hour curfew in pursuance of peace and order in Sokoto metropolis.
This follows the protest that broke out over the murder of Deborah Samuel, a student of Shehu Shagari College of Education.
IDOMA VOICE reports that Deborah was killed for allegedly insulting the Holy Prophet Mohammed in a school WhatsApp group chat.
This led to the arrest of two persons following the order of the Sultan of Sokoto.
The arrest, however, did not go down well with many people, especially youths in Sokoto, who took to the street to demand the immediate release of the suspect.
Reacting, Governor Tambuwal, in a statewide broadcast, called for calm while the state government investigates the incident.
