Trump threatens to send military to Nigeria over killings of Christians, alerts US war department
President Donald J. Trump said Saturday he has directed the U.S. Defence Department to be ready for potential military operations in Nigeria if its government “continues to allow the killing of Christians.”
Trump made the announcement in a post on his Truth Social platform, following his designation of Nigeria on Friday as a Country of Particular Concern over alleged abuses against Christian communities.
The U.S. administration also said it would immediately halt all aid and assistance to Nigeria amid the escalating row.
In his post, Trump warned of direct action, saying the United States may “very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.”
He added: “If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, “guns-a-blazing,” to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities. I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians! > WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!”
