Concerns in Benue as Gov Alia fails to unveil cabinet after first 70 days in office

It has been 70 days since Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia took office as the governor of Benue State, after defeating Titus Uba of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a fiercely contested election in March.

However, in these 70 days, the new government is yet to take shape, raising concerns among the people of the state.

Unlike his counterparts in other states, who have hit the ground running with the unveiling of their cabinet members and initiating various projects, Governor Alia’s government is yet to make significant progress.

The delay in forming his cabinet has been a major point of concern. The last update on the commissioner nominees list was when the state speaker, Hyacinth Dajoh, announced that Alia had submitted the list to the State Assembly.

However, the list remains undisclosed to the public, leaving them in the dark about the governor’s intended team.

As the clock ticks closer to the 100-day mark of his administration, there are growing worries among natives of Benue and supporters of the “Yes Father” movement that Governor Alia is not living up to their expectations. They believe that a serious and proactive government should have set up its cabinet and begun implementing projects within the first month after inauguration.

Adding to the concerns is the fact that Governor Alia’s government is yet to embark on any tangible project. The state’s government account remains frozen, further hindering the smooth functioning of the administration.

Many are now questioning the reasons behind the delay and lack of progress. They wonder why the governor has not made his commissioners known to the public, and why there is no visible action on the ground. The lack of transparency and communication about the government’s plans is becoming a cause for worry among the populace.

With about 30 days left before hitting the 100-day milestone, the pressure is mounting on Governor Alia to address these concerns and demonstrate tangible progress. The people of Benue State eagerly await signs of effective governance and the implementation of policies that will positively impact their lives. As the governor’s term progresses, the hope is that he will fulfill the promises made during the election and lead the state towards growth and development.
