The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the incident, with initial investigations indicating that the victim, reportedly known for criminal activities, may have been lynched by locals.
There were also unsettling reports that the deceased’s body showed signs of organ removal, especially his private parts, leading to suspicions of a ritual killing. The corpse was found abandoned near a new-generation bank at Ayama Junction, along Olu-Obasanjo Road.
An Ikoku market trader, identified only as Emeka, mentioned that the victim’s abdomen appeared to have been cut open, with organs allegedly missing. However, the victim’s identity remains unknown, and a crowd soon gathered at the scene.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko, refuted claims about organ harvesting, clarifying that all the victim’s organs were intact. She stated: “On November 9, 2024, at about 10:30 am, the Rivers State Police Command received a report of an unidentified body near Ayama Junction/Ikokwu Spare Parts Market along Olu-Obasanjo Road. Our operatives quickly responded.”
