Court issues production warrant for Naira Marley in internet fraud case

Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has issued a production warrant for Nigerian singer Azeez Fashola, widely known as Naira Marley. Naira Marley faces prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on 11-count charges related to conspiracy and credit card fraud.

During the latest court session, the defendant’s counsel, Olalekan Ojo, SAN, informed the court that Naira Marley was unable to attend the proceedings due to his detention by the Police for questioning in connection with the murder case of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad. Ojo requested an adjournment of the trial on this basis.

In response, the prosecution counsel, Bilkisu Buhari, urged the court to issue a production warrant to ensure the defendant’s presence at the next scheduled hearing.

Justice Oweibo granted the prosecution’s request and issued the production warrant. The judge also adjourned the trial until October 30, 2023, for its continuation.
