Thirty-two individuals have been convicted for internet fraud by various courts in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibadan Zonal Directorate, prosecuted them on separate charges of impersonation and cyber-related offenses.
On Wednesday, Justices Ladiran Akintola, O.S. Adeyemi, K.B. Olawoyin, and G.A. Sunmonu of the Oyo State High Court, along with Justice Nkeonye Maha of the Federal High Court, sentenced the fraudsters to jail terms and community service.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale stated that the convicts pleaded guilty and received sentences ranging from three months to two years. Some were fined between N50,000 and N500,000, while others were ordered to perform community service.
The court also ordered the forfeiture of cash, phones, laptops, and vehicles linked to their crimes. One convict, Ayobami, was directed to refund N2.5 million to his victim.
The EFCC reiterated its commitment to tackling internet fraud and warned that more offenders would be prosecuted.
