‘Don’t be recruited as a thug’ – SGF Akume cautions Tiv youths
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Dr. George Akume, has cautioned Nigerians, particularly the tiv youths, against allowing themselves to be recruited as political thugs.
Akume issued the warning while addressing attendees at the Tiv Day Celebration held in Gboko, Benue State.
Speaking at the event, the SGF stressed that political violence undermines democracy and development, urging citizens to reject actions that could destabilise society.
He advised young people to channel their energy toward productive ventures that would contribute positively to nation-building.
The Tiv Day Celebration, which attracted traditional rulers, political leaders and Tiv sons and daughters from across the country, focused on promoting unity, peace and cultural values among the Tiv people.
Akume’s remarks come amid growing concerns over the role of political thuggery in elections and public affairs, with calls from stakeholders for peaceful political participation across the country.
