EPL: Mitoma shines as Brighton stun Chelsea again in dominant win

Kaoru Mitoma produced a moment of brilliance as Brighton secured their second win over Chelsea in a week, denting the Blues’ hopes of a top-four Premier League finish.
The victory lifts Brighton to eighth in the table, just four points behind fifth-placed Manchester City, though City, Newcastle, and Bournemouth—each with a game in hand—could overtake Chelsea with wins on Saturday.
Mitoma opened the scoring in style, expertly controlling goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen’s long pass before cutting inside Trevoh Chalobah and curling a precise shot past Filip Jorgensen into the bottom corner.
Brighton dominated from there, securing their first home league win since November 9. Yankuba Minteh doubled their lead before halftime, finishing from close range after excellent build-up play from Danny Welbeck and Georginio Rutter.
Despite Chelsea enjoying long spells of possession, they struggled to break down Fabian Hurzeler’s well-organized side. Their best chances included a Cole Palmer shot that went wide and an Enzo Fernandez header ruled out for a foul on Joel Veltman.
Minteh sealed the victory just after the hour mark, capitalizing on Chelsea’s defensive frailties with a well-placed low strike at Jorgensen’s near post, capping off a commanding performance from the Seagulls.
