FACT CHECK: Did explosives kill terrorists coming into Nigeria from Chad?

A report on Monday went viral on social media on how some terrorists armed with Improvised explosive device were blown up at the Chadian border with Nigeria.

The report, which showed some burnt bodies, claimed they were coming into Nigeria to cause more havoc, before nemesis met up with them.

According to the broadcast, “They were coming into Nigeria from Chad with some explosive weapons with them to support their alliance forces here in Nigeria to cause more havocs but were blown up by the same weapons that were with them mistakenly just at the entrance of the border between Nigeria and Chad.”

VERIFICATION

IDOMA VOICE used the reverse-image search tool, and according to the search result, the image was from Morogoro in Tanzania.

On the basis of this information and with the use of relevant keywords, IDOMA VOICE found that a massive fuel tank explosion in the town of Morogoro in Tanzania in August 2019 had killed over 60 people.
According to a report by The New York Times, “Witnesses in Morogoro told The Associated Press that scores of people had gathered around the fuel tanker after it was involved in an accident early on Saturday. They said people were trying to take fuel when the tanker burst into flames.”
The casualty figure later crossed one hundred.

CONCLUSION
The claim that the incident happened at the Nigeria-Chad border is false.
