Family buries Benue girl allegedly killed in Lagos
The body of Miss Juliet, a young woman from Obi Local Government Area of Benue State who was allegedly beaten to death in Lagos, has been committed to the earth amid lingering questions over justice for her killing.
Juliet was said to have died on November 4, 2025, after she was reportedly attacked by suspected street touts, popularly known as agberos, in the Ajah axis of Lagos State.
According to family members, efforts to secure justice hit a dead end after police investigators failed to locate the main suspect linked to the fatal assault.
The family reportedly abandoned the case after spending several weeks in Lagos without significant progress in the investigation.
Her remains were later conveyed to Benue State, where she was laid to rest.
Relatives also expressed disappointment over the release of some members of the suspect’s family who had earlier been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
Reacting to the development, human rights advocate Dr. Laff alleged that the case was eventually weakened due to the family’s limited financial capacity to sustain a lengthy legal process.
The killing has continued to raise serious concerns about access to justice and the safety of vulnerable residents, especially migrants, in Nigeria’s major cities.
