Fani-Kayode knocks Obasanjo for ‘humiliating’ Yoruba monarchs

Femi Fani-Kayode, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has unleashed a scathing critique against former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Fani-Kayode’s criticism stems from what he perceives as a deeply humiliating episode involving traditional rulers in Oyo State.

The controversy ignited from a widely circulated video capturing Obasanjo’s stern chastisement of traditional rulers who, in his view, failed to acknowledge his presence by standing up during a public event held in Iseyin, Oyo State, last Friday. The footage showed the former president urging the Obas to rise in respect, only to later order them to sit back down.

Fani-Kayode, in response to the incident, issued a statement through his official channel expressing his profound dismay. He stated, “I am deeply saddened and utterly mortified by the way in which former President Olusegun Obasanjo lambasted our revered traditional rulers in Oyo state and ‘ordered’ them to ‘stand up’ and ‘sit down’ as if they were children.”

Fani-Kayode concluded, “Many think that the whole thing is some kind of joke but I do not. We must not take it lightly, and the truth is that by doing what he did he has spat on all our faces.”
